Remarks from Coaches

As a reading coach for Read2Win, I have experienced such a blessing being a part of first grade students learning to read. We are winding down in the school year and seeing the progress of our students is beyond rewarding. Here are a few remarks from some of our reading coaches that I thought might encourage you:

Every week I look forward to coaching and working with my student in reading. Every week it’s a joy to see improvements, a positive plus, “I CAN DO THIS” attitude in my student. I am so thankful to be a member of my church and be a part of this ministry supported by my pastor and his wife.

The student that I tutor has shown progress in his reading skills. He seems to be more confident when reading and he eagerly tries sounding the more difficult words. I’ve seen great improvements in his comprehension skills as well. Some of his answers to the questions are most fascinating; he has lots of stories to tell of his own. I enjoy the time spent with my student. I’m glad to be able to make a difference.

[The first grader] I tutor began our sessions rushing through his book, looking to me to “fill in” words he didn’t know. Utilizing one of the Read2Win strategies, I’ve trained him to consistently look through the book first to predict what the story is about. This has been a tremendous help for him. It makes him slow down and more importantly, he’s using picture context clues to read words he otherwise would not know. To the credit of his teacher, he does really great with sounding out basic words and LOVES it when he gets them right!
